Question #3

BUSD should use it's own teachers to to train other teachers

Responses

  1. The teachers who have been working closely with ALS and have been successful could probably already be able to train the other teachers.
  2. I agree if the teacher teaching me can help me teach my subject matter better.
  3. WE have some phenomenal teachers. I would be surprised if our District Office, specifically Maureen Latham, knows of all of the talents and specializations our teachers have- because she never asks. Because it's all about ALS, and the direction of the District. And if teachers want to use what they know, she states, "fidelity to the curriculum" and "DII"- it's a narrow focus that prohibits our teachers from giving all of themselves to our children and students.
  4. If this is put into action, administrators need to be very cautious of the teachers that are chosen for the positions. The decisions cannot be made according to the principal's favorite teachers, but those who can lead without arrogance. I have spoken with excellent veteran teacher's feel unworthy, unimportant and insignificant because they are being taught how to teach by inexperienced new teachers who have not experienced teaching anything but the adopted curricullum and DII straight from ALS. We will lose many great teachers due to the negative feelings regarding this issue. There is more to teaching and even more to learning than students being able to re-iterate Language Arts and Math standards. Forget about Social Studies, Science, Music, or Art.
  5. An outside agency has more influence on District and Site Administration. Concerns from a Teacher Trainer will not be held to the same level, I might even say ignored or down played. This statement is dependant on the character of personnel at the District and favoritism that naturally occurs at all levels.
  6. Whatever is cheapest, I think they both amount to the same result.
  7. It will then become subject to collective bargaining under the control of the teachers union. The union does not have the best interests of children and wont be held accountable, An outside third party can be held accountable for results
