First Annual Beaumont Spirit Run

At the beginning of this school year, I was approached by Steven Leach, a parent in our community. He had a vision for our community public schools to create community funding on an annual basis by way of fundraising and eventually grant funding via an education Foundation. The purpose of the annual event is to relieve the need of our schools to send students home with fundraising solicitations. Participating schools will be encouraged to demonstrate their respective school spirit through participation-rate and friendly competition. We are hoping to work with the schools to raise health and fitness awareness and at the same time provide needed funds for our schools. Our goals for the first annual event are the following:

* To raise funds to be used for enrichment of student programs that PTA and School Site Councils recognize as currently underfunded.

* To provide community sponsors the opportunity to show their financial support in giving back to our community schools while increasing their exposure in our general community.

* To encourage physical fitness at the school-age level

* To provide the community and surrounding areas with an annual celebration focusing support for health and physical fitness.

We are rolling out our first annual Beaumont Spirit Run in September. The event will feature a 10K and 5K road course. There will also be a 1K run/walk on a closed course for ages 12 and under. The 5K run will allow jogger strollers for families to enjoy and the 10K is designed for the competitive and ambitious. A family health and fitness fair will parallel the event and concluding the final run, there will be an award presentation and raffle.

The Beaumont Spirit Run Committee, consisting of school employees, teachers, PTA representatives, and parents, is working with The Latino Health Collaborative of San Bernardino. The Latino Health Collaborative is focused on eliminating health disparities by harnessing the strength of the community. They are an action-oriented solution-focused coalition of community representatives and are uniquely positioned to address the health disparities in our region. All of their work is geared towards moving all healthcare stakeholders towards eliminating racial/ethnic disparities in health and healthcare. The LHC believed our goals and objectives were similar to theirs and agreed to provide the financial structure we needed to be able to accept donations and funds from sponsors.

I have been tasked with visiting the School Site Councils and PTA boards to recruit volunteers. I would like to ask for your support to help me find parents, students and volunteers interested in helping us promote and staff this event. I will be visiting PTA and School Site Council meetings in April and May to find volunteers to work with us on the Spirit Run.We are also looking for community sponsors. We have multiple community sponsorship levels available starting as low as $50.

We have a website in the early stage of development that will eventually have all the details. The address is .If you or someone you know are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact me and I will put you in touch with Steve.

Thank You
