The district is still unable to fill the vacant parent position on the Measure Z Oversight Committee. I am not surprised. If the board and administration would make more of an effort to increasing parent involvement, I don’t think they would have problems finding parents to get involved. They should start by updating their parent involvement policy and develop a parent involvement plan. The No Child Left Behind Title I law requires districts receiving Title 1 funds from the government to "demonstrate a commitment to work with parents" and adopt parent involvement policies "jointly developed with parents". The policy is supposed to be updated annually; the board’s current policy was last updated in October 2006.
