Board authorizes $50,000 dugout during a spending freeze.

By a 5-0 vote at the last board meeting, the board authorized the superintendent to spend about $50,000 to build a new dugout at the high school's baseball field. When one board member expressed concern over authorizing spending on a job without a contractor submitting a valid bid, the assistant superintendent of facilities said they were ok because as long as it was a small project (less than $100,000) they didn't need formal approval on a written contract. This seemed to make the board feel at ease. We may lose very talented teachers, but we will have a great looking dugout.....hmmmm. What is a spending freeze?
